The Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday

Join us this Saturday to experience the Orthodox celebrations of Easter in Shtip. As part of learning about and embracing our local culture, this weekend we will do many activities showcasing the celebrations of Orthodox Easter. The main and most popular tradition and religious custom is the church mass and procession held just before midnight in front of the main church in town. The whole town gathers around the church with lit-up candles in their hands, and as midnight strikes and the resurrection of Jesus is announced, everybody starts an egg-cracking competition in their group. So bring your champion easter egg and get ready to crack your way to a healthy, wealthy and blessed year.
